came saws

Looking for a dependable came/zinc saw. Anyone have a recommendation of comment? Your experience might help in making the right choice. Thanks.

re: came saws

I have a Gryphon that works very well.

If you're interested in more information, Gryphon has some videos (quicktime required) demonstrating the setup and use of their came saw:

re: came saws

In the US there's a company called Harbour Freight that sells a small cut-off saw that I hear a lot of raves about. It's under $30.00.

In Canada, I believe Princess Auto sell a similar product - might even be the same.

Both companies have on-line ordering.

Hint: save on freight and order a couple of extra blades with your saw.

Another hint:Zinc and copper cut fast and easy. Brass is slower and wears blades out quickly.

This is my home built came saw.

re: came saws

It's made from an old cast iron "mini" table saw. I rigged up a sliding platform with a 6' articulated arm attached to a miter guage. It has a 1/2 horsepower motor and a narrow kerf "jewelry splitters" blade

re: came saws

Anaconda Tools makes an excellent little mini-saw that my instructor actually uses in her shop for cutting lead and zinc came. You can find it on eBay (auction or buy-now), or google Anaconda Tools. If you're doing low volume work, as I do, this would work great.
